Background on charities

AHOY Centre, Lewisham

The AHOY centre is a water sports charity located in one of London’s most deprived communities and a Flagship Learning Centre using the River Thames as a pathway to provide opportunities for the community and those at-risk, disadvantaged or with learning disabilities. Through sailing, rowing and related learning activities we aim to break down social barriers, develop essential life skills, confidence and pride.

All activities and programmes are focused on teaching transferable and employable life skills whilst offering opportunities for disabled people to participate on an equal level. Bringing together people from many walks of life, working as a community to help others, build life skills, self-confidence and team building.

Redbridge foodbank

Redbridge foodbank is part of a national network of foodbanks, giving out nutritionally balanced emergency food to people in crisis who have nowhere else to turn. The food bank relies on food donations to feed local people in crisis.

Little Village, Hackney

Little Village is named because it takes a village to raise a child. Little Village supports local families with babies and children under age five living in poverty across London. The Hackney charity provides essentials for babies and young children, including items like clothes, shoes, cots, nappies, toiletries, buggies and toys to families needing extra support. Parents are also able to find details of where to find further support. With the cost-of-living crisis, there are even more families in need of support.

Community Food Enterprise, Newham

The Community Food Enterprise helps in the fight against food poverty by sourcing and redistributing surplus food.
